Nature experiences
North Sea
The stunning Danish North Sea is known not just by Danes, but by millions of people around the world. Varde is Denmark’s second largest tourist municipality in terms of overnight visitors, second only to Copenhagen. We have the North Sea to thank for that.
The most visited and well-known seaside resorts of Blåvand, Vejers and Henne are all a 40-45 minute drive from Helle Aktivitetshotel. The cities are surrounded by water on one side and beautiful forests, beautiful meadows and rugged moorland on the other. There’s plenty of nature to explore.
Forests and zoos
Close to Helle Hallen is a wealth of smaller and larger forests with public access.
Just two kilometers away you’ll find the forests at Bolhede, where there is also a gliding club. 10 kilometers east of Agerbæk is Baldersbæk Plantation and Klelund Deer Park, where there are plenty of red deer, wild boar, cranes and wolves.
Along the west coast of Jutland you’ll also find lovely coastal forests and plantations.
Lakes and rivers
The area around Helle Aktivitetshotel has a lot of agricultural land but also plenty of beautiful nature with lakes and rivers.
Kvie Lake near Ansager (15 minutes’ drive away) is a charming lobelia lake located in a plantation area. It offers swimming in the summer, a playground and a very popular pancake restaurant.
The best swimming lake in the area is the very popular Nysø near Varde.
On nearby Ansager Å, Varde Å and Karlsgårde Lake you can canoe or paddleboard.
Wadden Sea
From Ho Bugt north of Esbjerg and south along the west coast of Jutland, the Wadden Sea is home to a wide variety of animals and birds and very large numbers. The phenomenon of the Black Sun can be experienced when giant flocks of birds form formations in the Wadden Sea sky.
The Wadden Sea was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014 and is a very special place to visit if you are a guest at Helle Aktivitetshotel.
